#Log4J2 Vulnerability CVE-2021-44228

There has been a recently discovered vulnerability in Apache Log4j2. Please refer to our blog post for our latest advice.

Experimental Installer

This release also includes an experimental installer based on JavaFX. If you have a JavaFX enabled environment (you are using OracleJDK or OpenJDK+OpenJFX) then you are welcome to try it and give feedback. This installer variant allows you to pre-select optional components that you want to bundle into your installation (it uses gradle behind the scenes) and can optionallly generate the gradle bootstrap files required for managing projects.

This project is hosted publicly at GitHub. Just download the JAR file and execute it. If you get a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javafx/application/Application then you don't have JavaFX environment. Fix that before raising issues.

  • java -jar ./interlok-fx-installer.jar

Also please note that no "executable" is installed as part of the install process; you are going to be expected to start interlok via
java java -jar lib/interlok-boot.jar

Windows Notes

Download interlok-install-3.12.0-RELEASE-without-jre.exe
Due to licensing changes around Java; you will have to already have a Java virtual machine installed.
Due to Windows 10 Smartscreen; running the installer may be blocked since it will be unknown. You can explicitly trust it by marking it as such against the file properties; if you don't wish to trust it, then use the manual zip installer instead. c.f. this windows central guide
Choose a 64bit Java Runtime as the installer expects that; if you are unable to choose a 64bit JVM, then download the individual zip files manually. Check the JVM is 64bit, by running java -version from a command prompt; otherwise you get something like

    Flexeraaw_$aaa: C:\Users\....\AppData\Local\Temp\I1543944249\Windows_Pure_64_Bit\resource\iawin32.dll not found at Flexeraaw_.af(Unknown Source)

Unix Notes

Download interlok-install-3.12.0-RELEASE.bin and execute from a prompt after download sh ./interlok-install-3.12.0-RELEASE.bin
The default installation mode is console, in order to use the GUI installer, invoke the binary with the -i gui switch.
Under certain situations it is possible for the installer not to start up correctly. The error is similar to:

awk: error while loading shared libraries: libdl.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
dirname: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/bin/ls: error while loading shared libraries: librt.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
basename: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
dirname: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
basename: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

      Launching installer...
grep: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/opt/java/jdk/bin/java: error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

You may have an issue with the version of glibc on your system. The fix is relatively easy; you simply need to cat the install script through sed and modify the text export LD_ASSUME to be #xport LD_ASSUME.

      cat interlok-install-3.12.0-RELEASE.bin | sed "s/export LD_ASSUME/#xport LD_ASSUME/" > install.bin.new
      sh ./install.bin.new

Manual Install Notes

If you are selecting the non-installer option, you may want to read our documentation on running Interlok directly from the commandline
